Twin Killing (Minnesota)

[This one's an insturmental..."Why?" you ask...

Well, when the Farmhands convened for their first recording session in Scranton, PA, they opened the festivities with some straight whisky and a straightaway improvised jam of raw excitement. Luckily, they rolled tape. After the blistering first take, the Farmhands agreed the tune would be a keeper, and so began the discussion of which team the tune best evoked. The fundamental indie rock drive reminded the band of Kirby Puckett crashing the baggie, Kent Hrbek's mighty cut and the exuberant defense and scrappy baserunning of young Chuck Knoblauch and company. Musically, the band looked to deepen the funk in tribute to Minneapolis's purple mascot, Prince, while maintaining the raucous live sound of midwest rockers the Replacements with the altrock edge of Husker Du. With the two time champion Twins of the late 80s and early nineties and the sounds of their twin cities in mind, the Farmhands ripped off the second take, which has been immortalized as track four on the American League disc.
