Houston
Astros. Houston Astros, etc.
[Instrumental, although a sample repeats, "Houston
Astros."
What happens when you take a bunch of rough and
tumble baseballers out of their grass stained wool and put 'em inside
on a spaceage carpet in tight trippy polyester? The same thing that
happens when you take the guitars and drums away from four drunken
indie rockers and give them synthesizers, samplers, omnichords and
electonic drum pads--Houston Synthetic.
The dance synth sound relates to Houston's many
discoteques, prominent there since the seventies proliferation of
LSD, through the MDMA (XTC) of the 80s and 90s and on to today's
Crystal Meth. The indie rock underpinnings which strip away the
polish usually associated with electronica is a shout out to the
Colt .45s, the rugged Houston team that became the spacey Astros
in the sixties.
If the Killer B's ever go clubbing, or if Andy
Pettite and the Rocket ever experiment with homosexuality, we think
this number would enhance their experience. --fungo]
