The Draft

On opening day in April 2004, The Farmhands held a draft via conference call wherein Sacfly, HighCheese and Fungo took turns choosing from Major League Baseball’s 30 teams. In the end, each Farmhand obtained 10 teams for which he would be creatively responsible. The draft broke down as follows:

Fungo: Baltimore, New York (AL), Tampa Bay, Chicago (AL), Kansas City, Texas, Houston, Arizona, Los Angeles (NL), Colorado

SacFly: Boston, Toronto, Cleveland, Minnesota, Anaheim, Atlanta, Philadelphia, New York (NL), Montreal, St. Louis

High Cheese: Detroit, Oakland, Seattle, Florida, Pittsburgh, Milwaukee, Chicago (NL), Cincinnati, San Diego, San Francisco

For each of the songs on his list, each Farmhand could determine the degree of control he exerted on the composition and production process. Creative responsibility entailed conceiving the musical and lyrical style for the songs of teams selected. It also granted each Farmhand “final cut” in decisions regarding the recording and production of the songs on his list. Some songs were completed entirely by one individual, others were done completely collaboratively.
